for something totally different

I am just putting it out here, because if I don't, I will never know what could have come of it....

One of my friends has a newly-turned 6 year old boy who has severe autism and only just learned to walk at the age of 5 years. He has never talked.

Recently, she found out of a treatment called 'Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy' which could prove to be the help he needs to get closer to a 'normal' life.

The Treatments are not covered by OHIP, and would cost nearly $8,000 when all is said and done.

So -- to help raise funds for treatment, there will be a fundraiser event on Sunday, June 26 3pm-7pm at the Ajax Legion. There will be karaoke, a penny auction, 50/50 draws, good food, and more! It is family friendly, so we encourage you to bring your kids!

There are no tickets being sold, just show up and enjoy some festivities to help out a good cause...

For more information, or if you cannot make it, and you would like to donate something for the event, please email me at drudexia@gmail.com

Don't worry... I won't start using this message board as a means of bothering you guys with all my 'attempts to rack up points to get into heaven since I was such a horrible teenager' efforts... but the fact that he is a little kid, well, it tugs at my heart strings..

Scott and I, along with our kids, will be attending... so come hang out with us and keep Scott company since I am dragging him there. :)

RE: for something totally different

Looking around on the internet, it looks like you can rent a unit for $2500, or buy one for $5500.

Also, don't know if this would help them or not, but my brother's wife has opened up her own practice in Ajax (she worked at North York General for about 15 years) -- she's an Occupational Therapist with sensory integration training (and a whole host of other titles and letters behind her name). I believe that she specializes in helping Autistic children, and opened up in the Durham Region because there aren't that many places local that do it, apparently.

Hands 2 Feet is the name of the business. I can get a phone number for your friends if they're interested.

I wish them the best of luck -- we have friends going through the same thing right now, and it's very tough. It takes special parents to give those kids the attention and help that they need, so I'll be praying for strength for them.

TJ.

Kelly we are a community league and in my opinon their is nothing wrong in putting it out there for people to try and help neighbours. If you can wright up a little something more professional (as Scott would say...lol) I will put to my team the Raiders and try and raise some cash.

RE: for something totally different

Tj - Thank you! He is suuuch an awesome little kid with a great spirit, and his Mother is amazing for being able to take care of him (and her other kids) the way they need to be cared for.

I will copy & paste the message you wrote into an email to her. I will be meeting with her within the next few days to finalize the details of the fundraising event, so I will discuss it with her in person then as well. There really isn't anything out this way, so that's awesome (and smart) of your SIL to make something available in this region.... Hopefully it is something that Elijah can benefit from and take advantage of... I will google search her info to include in my message to my friend.

Kevin - although you continue to bounce back and fourth on my "love-vs-hate" meter, this has the arrow pointing back into the "love" portion....

or.. maybe im confusing love with "tolerate" ?? laughs.. it is Monday morning.. and my brain isn't functioning at max. capacity so either way -- you are on my good side.

I have been hesitating about posting anything for 2 months now, worried about the response I would get since this is a football forum, and not a charity forum.. so I really appreciate you saying what you said... (even with all the grammatical imperfections). I have a letter from his mother that I can forward you by email. It would be awesome if The Raiders could generate a donation. The letter includes the banking information which has been set-up for his treatments exclusively.

Any other teams interested in doing the same?

Yep Kelly it is real hard to hate me. But easy to love me. Point that arrow baby all the way.

As for the rest of the league I am putting out a challenge to the other team managers to raise funds for a little guy who needs our help. I have asked the Raiders to donate a minimum of $5.00 per player for this little dude on Sunday June 19th. I know it is the cost of a beer at the bar, but I think it will go real good with your conscious.
