Week 6 Picks

Well I did go perfect in the weekly picks contest I went a somewhat disappointing 5 - 2 in the overall picks. That brings my total record to 20-6-2. Onto this week’s games.

Some tough games to call over at Central so I'm going to start with the easier games at Maxwell.

OPC v Manimals

We've seen so little out of the Manimals this year in terms of games played. Sure they dominated the Cowboys in the first game of the year and looked like the turnaround team of the year but then they lost to the Brew Crew and got smoked by the Bulldogs. And that's all we've seen so far. OPC meanwhile have been outscored 61 - 0 so far in July but had a respectable June. So with both of these teams being so inconsistent I'll have to take the historically better team of the two which is OPC.

Hawks v Manimals

The Hawks looked absolutely dreadful last week receiving the second worst beat down so far this season (not surprisingly at the hands of the Rogues). But before last week they had a record of 2 - 1 - 1 with their only loss being a 5 point loss to a very good Untouchables team. The moral of the story; The Hawks aren't good enough to compete with the top teams (keep in mind the Bulldogs were missing their starting QB when the Hawks tied them) but they are much better than last week's score indicated. Give me the Hawks to beat the Manimals fairly easily.

Hawks v Mustangs

As I said the Hawks had the 2nd worst beat down of the season last week at the hands of the Rogues and the Mustangs didn't fare much better. After an easy win over possibly the worst team in the league and a brutal loss to the unquestioned best team in the league I think this game will show who the Mustangs really are. If they win this game handily they belong in the upper tier. If they lose or struggle to pull out the victory I believe they are not the team we thought they were. I'm not completely confident in this pick but give me the Stangs to win a game they should win (just not sure by how much).

Mustangs v Cowboys

The Cowboys have rebounded nicely since that opening week loss to the Manimals. Sure their record is 1-4 since then but losses to the Bulldogs and Untouchables are nothing to be ashamed of. They have definitely reasserted themselves as potential "C" champions. Still they shouldn't have much of a chance against a solid Mustangs team. Give me the Mustangs to win both games this week.

CENTRAL

Buckeyes v Bulldogs

This looks like a potential "A" semi-final with these two teams finishing 2nd and 3rd. The Bulldogs are a tough team to read. They lose by one point to a Rogues team that has won every other game by at least 34 points but then beat the Sharks by only a single point and tie the Hawks (albeit as stated above without their starting QB). The Buckeyes on the other hand got smoked by the Rogues for their only loss but their only real win came over the Untouchables. This is a huge statement game for both these teams to show what they’re all about. I like Bulldogs simply based on the fact that they lost by one point to the Rogues and the Buckeyes lost by 42. But I do see this game being really close.

Brew Crew v. Raiders

Another tough game to call (told you Maxwell was the easier field). Don't let the Brew Crew's 1 -3 record fool you. Their 3 losses have been to the Sharks, The Untouchables and the Rogues. All very tough opponents. The Raiders 0 - 5 record is also a tough one to take too much credence from as 4 of those 5 opponents have been Mustangs, Sharks, Rogues and Buckeyes. However that 5th loss was against the Cowboys. Based on that I have to go with what seems to be a very improved Brew Crew team to win a close one.

Rogues v. Untouchables

With how much I've mention the Rogues in this post it's pretty hard to believe I haven't yet prognosticated their game. So you ready for even more Rogues stats? How about this. They have played as many or more games than every other team this year (6) yet have the fewest points against (34). The Mustangs have played 2 games this year and have given up 40. Their average points against per game is under 6, the next best team is the Sharks at just under 10 (and they have played OPC, Brew Crew and The Raiders who have a combined average of 6 points per game). So that's pretty dominate in points against. So let's move to points for, The Rogues are averaging over 43 points per game The next best team is the Buckeyes who are at 21.75 so the Rogues are essentially doubling the second best team in points for. So what does it all mean? It means the Rogues are really damn good and that unless something drastic happens I'm taking them every time. Give me the Rogues over a very good but not nearly good enough Untouchables team.

Well there you have it. My picks for the weekly picks contest are:

Rogues, Hawsk over Manimals, Mustangs over Cowboys and just to make it kind of interesting Brew Crew over Raiders.

As always I welcome your feedback (and I’m sure as always I won't get any except from maybe KA). Thanks Buzz for the shout out in the "What's the Buzz"
