Week 7 in Review

As the playoffs inch closer, the race for playoff seeding is heating up. Let's get right to it!

Central - 9:00

Longhorns 12 - Turtles 6

The day has finally arrived as the Longhorns end their lengthy 8 game losing streak at the expense of the Turtles. Congratulations Longhorns! The Longhorns got touchdowns from two separate players, Miguel "Yo Queiro Touchdowns" Morris and Wes King to lead them past the Turtles. The Turtles' lone score came from Kyle Connolly.

Central - 10:30

Lancers 50 - Turtles 0

The Lancers exploded in this one for a whopping 50 points and their defence shut down the Turtles' offence the entire game. Alex Viera eyeing the scoring title came up huge for the Lancers, registering 4 touchdowns. Not sure what else can be said about this one folks; I'm still speechless.

Central - 12:00

Lancers 51 - Longhorns 0

The Lancers must have been drinking some serious NOS as they steamrolled past the Longhorns 51-0. Alex "all I do is score TD's" Viera led the Lancers once again with 20 points. Chris Draffin was also able to jump into the scoring fest for the Lancers, contributing 14 points of his own. The Longhorns may have been overcome with joy after registering their first win earlier in the day, forgetting that they had a second game. This gives the Lancers a 6-2-1 mark on the year, good enough for sole possession of first place in the tight "B" division.

Anderson - 9:00

Rogues 6 - Sun Devils 6

Welcome to the Anderson field, also known as a conservation swamp land. This game pitted the top two teams in the league against one another, forcing them to battle out a difficult game on a difficult field. With offence being hard to come by, both teams fought their way into the endzone resulting in a tough 6-6 draw. Fred Ortencio scored the lone touchdown for the Rogues and Diarra Jerome found paydirt for the Sun Devils. My sources tell me that there was some controversy at the end of this game. We'll have to wait for the playoffs to see who will be standing tall with the trophy when all is said and done.

Anderson - 10:30

All Blacks 8 - Buckeyes - 6

Another tough defensive match-up saw the All Blacks squeak out a victory over the Buckeyes by a score of 8-6. Tony Chang was the difference maker as he tallied all 8 points for the All Blacks, who improved to 3-5-1 on the year. The Buckeyes got their lone touchdown from Chris Pierre, who also had an interception to help the defensive effort, but were unable to punch in their convert. With the loss, the Buckeyes now find themselves with a record of 4-6, just ahead of the All Blacks. This game also saw it's fair share of controversy but when all was said and done the score stands, as do the stats.

Anderson - 12:00

Hounds 6 - Bulldogs - 0

Both teams came into this one riding a streak, although of different sorts. The Hounds entered this game on a two game winning streak after disposing of their competition with ease last week. The Bulldogs entered this game on a two game losing streak after being humbled by the Sun Devils. The Hounds extended that winning streak to three games now as Esteban Correa got the lone score in this one. The Hounds improved their record to 3-5-2 (but is it too late to really make a push?). Rumour has it the Bulldogs were missing their starting QB and had a tough go of it on offence. The loss knocked them out of first place in the "B" division and extended their losing streak to a season high three games.

Donevan - 9:00

Bucanneers 29 - OPC 23

The Bucs came out rolling in the early riser game, taking care of the business at hand in order to stay in the hunt for first place in the "C" division with a 29 to 23 win. The Bucs offence was led by none other than Geoff Johnson's 13 points. OPC put up a valiant fight in scoring 23 points against a good Bucs defense. Ryan Henriques led all OPS scorers with 15 points.

Donevan - 10:30

Raiders 32 - Buccanners 25

The Bucs were looking for the momentum from their first game to carry over to their second against a well-rested Raiders squad. However, the fatigue may have played a big role as the Raiders came out and topped the Bucs by a score of 32-25. The Raiders offence was firing on all cylinders and was able to take advantage of the tired Bucs D, led by a very impressive 24 points from Geoff Keen. The Bucs' offence, led by Sterling "don't call me Sharpe" Grouette's 12 points, was not able to keep pace in this one. This loss was a big one for the Bucs as they remain in second place in the race for the top spot in the "C" division.

Donevan - 12:00

Raiders 13- Mustangs 12

The Raiders continued their winning ways by securing a HUGE victory over a very tough Mustangs squad with a score of 13-12. Steven "Lights out" Robinson scored all the points for the Raiders, including that very clutch convert. My sources tell me the Mustangs were without their starting QB and it showed. JJ Edwards tallied all 12 points for the Mustangs but they came up just short in this one. This win propelled the Raiders to a record of 4-5 on the year. The Mustangs could have used this win to keep pace with the Lancers in the muddled "B" division.

Donevan - 1:30

Hawks 21 - Mustangs 19

Donevan was treated to a special on this day as it played host to four great games. In this one, the Hawks were able to impressively edge out the Mustangs by a score of 21-19. Leading the charge for the Hawks with 13 points was Ben Blanche. The Mustangs, playing the back end of a double header and once again without their starting QB, were able to put up a good fight but came up short in the end. Matt Coates provided some spark for the Mustangs registering 12 points. Convert attempts were the difference in this game, as was the case in many other games this weekend. The win helped the Hawks distance themselves from the Bucs, who split their two games earlier in the day, and improve their record to an impressive 6-2-1 on the year.

In Co-ed action the Intercepticons defeated Urine Trouble to take the consolation title. In the championship game, ASU led by their QB Dave Spackman battled tooth and nail with a very experienced Dawksports? team. Dawksports was able to score a 12 point play on the second last play of the game to take a 27-17 lead. ASU, needing a female touchdown, drove down the field but came up just short. It was an exciting final game played by two excellent teams.

Congratulations go out to Dawksports for winning the inaugural co-ed flag championship.

Hope ya'll enjoyed the week in review, this is JSJ signing off!

Don?t forget to visit our sponsor The COURTyard in Courtice. See you all back on the field September 18th - have a safe long weekend, and good luck to those participating in the TFONT Provincial Championships.

Also the second game against the longhorns no disrespect we are just trying to get me the scoring title (regarding the pick 6 that was tossed to me instead of greedy rob running it in)

awwww.. poor alex..

with a last name like: Alisauskas

I share your pain on the bastardization of surnames. ... we wont let it happen again in the next review where you score another 40 points. annndddd... if you want to maintain 1st place in the B... you will have to get shit done in your next game against the Raiders...

don't let them squeak by you like the did the Mustangs... (what a week to not have your QB out.. mind you.. their back up QB was an all-round amazing player).

but I trust after last years B finals, you guys will leave everything out on the field..

including their corpses...

oh shit.. i gotta save this Gold for my picks!!!

RE: Week 7 in Review

I sincerely hope the turtles and longhorns didn't take offense to the final scores in our game and especially to my wild attempts (stopping at the 5 yard line for what should have been a pick 6 to wait and pitch to him) of trying to help my man Alex take the lead in scoring. He honestly doesn't need the help, but I felt bad for keeping him off the score sheet the week before by not letting him play any offence. We honestly weren't trying to run the score, it just seemed like everything we did resulted in points. Props to both of those teams, they will be contenders soon enough.

I think Alex is a strong candidate for MVP. He not only puts up big numbers on offence, but he plays lights out on D and has picks to prove it. There hasn't been a team yet in either A,B,C that he hasn't scored on (except the game with my greedy play of keeping him sidelines). Could you imagine how good he could be if he didn't run a 7.9 40 yard dash!!!!!

Maybe this can be the next poll question, who is this years MVP?

RE: Week 7 in Review

Side note to this week's review. Wouldn't 4 picks in one game be grounds for a shout out in the review? It is review type material, no! Just saying.... :D

RE: Week 7 in Review

no no.. sorry.. i meant dont let the Raiders squeak by YOU guys.. like the mustangs let them squeak by them...

i wrote it vaguely... so i can see how you took it the way you did

as for the running up of the scores... i kinda already called it that before you guys confessed.. so im not shocked behind the reason.. you guys seem like respectable guys.. i dont see you running up the scores if it wasnt for a reason... but wouldnt the points victory feel that much better if it wasnt 20% against the lowest C teams?!? ;) either way... you earned them.... I was able to catch a bit of the turtles match up.. and I think they had lost heart after losing to the longhorns... and didnt have their best foot forward... they have all the potential to be a good team (next year, I would say amongst the top 2 of the "C") --- they just need the experience.

and.. kitty litter.. goddamn... if you wanted the review to incorporate all of your guys highs... it wouldve been a novel - not the coles notes version we are going for here... laughs... you guys handed them their gonads on the field, and now you want them to relive it again on here? how malicious.....

dont get me wrong......
i quite like it...

im looking forward to reading the review about how you guys demolish the raiders... yeah yeah... the raiders do have *some* good players.. and i genuinely like a couple of them.. i just think they got lucky last year.. and like i said... you guys will be out for blood... end of story.

RE: Week 7 in Review

Way better or should I say, nastier reason. Pre-game I like to drain the lizard. I usually do it by going down on one knee and act like I am stretching. This one time I did it in a sandbox. My team saw me and made their regular remarks, so I decided to set up my game. I acted like a cat in a litter box. Complete with leg kicks and paw drags. Not a pretty visual I painted, huh! :D

RE: Week 7 in Review

I don't know who 47 is on the lancers but lemme say this... we're not cocky. What your pride may be getting cocky confused with is actually swagger. it's a little difficult to hear you from the top. Real football players/team don't complain about a loss being due to luck (never heard the Rogues complaining about luck, we're just too good teams who battle everytime we meet, whoever wins is the better team and seeing that we tied twice means we're pretty even when we step on the field). We were missing players that game we played you, but I guess you guys are SO much better than us it simply requires LUCK not skill, athleticism or a good team with great players to beat you! No no no, ONLY luck! Well, I hope we are LUCKY enough to see you again in the playoffs.

You're truly.. Lucky #84

RE: Week 7 in Review

... and just to further add to my post... what I am getting is that you comments are another example of poor sportsmanship. I know that the the Lancers are a respectable team and I have nothing but the utmost respect for Jay as he used to be my quarterback so my comments are directed solely at 47 in regards to his comments and not the team as a whole.

If we lost to the Bulldogs or Rougues or anybody for that matter I can guarantee you that we would not be claiming they ONLY won because of luck.

Sun Devil, it's an honour to be named as one of the teams that a loss could be hung on you by (us and the Rogues), means a lot.
Thank you ;)

RE: Week 7 in Review

whoa whoa whoa, don't get your panties all in a knot over this. That game was lucky. I called your team cocky because after you guys would put up scores, we were being asked by a certain sun devil "Is this your tournament team?" As in implying, "wow, you guys aren't shit". I never go out of my way to talk sh*t. Ever. We havent' had one game this season where we had our entire team all year long. I am not saying you guys are garbage. Your record clearly proves otherwise. You guys are a good squad. What I'm saying is THAT game was lucky. We played you, you guys won, what can I say? Haha, this message board is hilarious. I respect what the sun devils have done and I respect your dominance this year. Remember, its all for shits and giggles at the end of the day. I want to poke fun at it, that's all. O, and btw, if you don't know who number 47 is, check the stats page, you will know then :O

RE: Week 7 in Review

Well your tournament team is a good squad to hold up in tier 2 and win some tournaments. Hopefully we get a chance to meet in tfont which would be a good game. If not, maybe in the Oshawa Playoffs. And I can assume and guess who on our team made that comment... I wouldn't pay any mind to it. Any team can win on any weekend.

RE: Week 7 in Review

The Lancers tourney team is the real deal. When they have all their weapons along with Jay as their Qb, they are legit tier 2 team. They actually should be an A level team in Oshawa.
The Sun devils are a good strong team on both sides of the ball too. I believe the Sun devils are relatively new on the TFONT tour this year and were ranked too low to begin with and have been working their way up rankings.
Wouldn't be surprised to see them play each other in provincials next weekend. Both teams have explosive offences but i might have to say Sun devils D is little nastier than the Lancers so I would say Sun devils would win in a close game.

It's no worries lancers, honestly, after sitting there for 90 minutes doing nothing other than drinking beer, I doubt we could've beat the turtles again.... the delay was brutal, but at least gave me time to shake the pummeling my skull gave the ground!

RE: Week 7 in Review

We were asked to play in A, but the Raiders ended up taking our spot. It was a flip flop from my understanding. Most of our tournament team doesn't show up, but we need the practice against the best teams in Oshawa in order to move forward and get better as a team. Hopefully we do well in the playoffs and can move up next year.
