WK1 "Whats the Buzz in the OTFL"?

He Could Go alllllll the way, What a Snag, Did that just happen? and Having Fun and Get'r Done!, these are all the phrases that we will here and are very familiar with as its that time again as we can't believe that WK#1 has already come and gone?

As mentioned again on behalf of the OTFL executive and myself, WE would all like to Welcome you and your squads back for another exciting year as we are 12 Teams strong.

It also looks like there was a few upgrades to some existing Teams for the 2014 season as we see the old Hounds changing names to the "Sharks" and the Brew Crew looking professional and ready to represent in their new uniforms.

With 11 out of our 12 Teams hitting the Gridiron last week, lets cut to the action. (Mustangs to start play July 6th).

Buzz Files:
POINTS:
Andrew Brimpong Rogues 24 pts
Matt Rafuse Buckeyes 16 pts
Marlon Wong Buckeyes 13 pts
Chris George Manimals 12
Tristan Muir Manimals 12 pts

INTERCEPTIONS:
Justine Glover Manimals 2
Che Yew Woon Untouchables 2

SACKS:
Daniel Oliveira OPC 4
Manimals Tristan Muir & Mark Punsammy with 2

Starting in the True North Part of Oshawa @ Maxwell Heights.

9:00am
Hawks vs OPC
These two squads are definitely not strangers to one another when it comes to battling. As last year proved that through and through.
Hawks this season though did make some Offensive changes as Scott (Our Prez) moved out of the QB position and allowed newcomer (Noah)to the Hawks but not new to the QB spot as he took over the driver seat.
OPC with a lot of familiar faces, returned in Classy OPC style with their tricky Audibles. But in the this 1st battle and even with OPC's Daniel "Oliveira's 4 SACKS, the Hawks just edged out OPC with a close score 14 - 8. Hawks scorers on the day were Rob Wilson and Timmy Mackasie with a TD each and OPC Brian Santos scoring.
These teams will look forward to their next contest vs each other. I know I will ;)
O MVP's: Noah Tumin (Hawks) Brian Santos (OPC)
D MVP's: Tyler Vsan Gijn / Daniel |Oliveira
MSL: Noah Tumin / Dave Chapelle

10:30am
OTFL Bulldogs vs Sharks
So here we have 2 squads that are starting out, what I would like to say "FRESH" as the OTFL BD's are literally starting over again with 50% returning BD's and 50% new Ballers.
And the Sharks New look going all black to set the intimidation factor high was a nice touch as well.
Bulldogs QB'd by Travis Thomas (until Davey Spackman is 100%) stepped up. As this was a nail biter till the end, it really would come down to time. The duo Clark Bros (Sharks)scored a TD each along with Aaron Johnson giving them 19 points but in the need it was the Bulldgogs who slipped one by the goalie squeaking out a 1 point win. Dave Zmozynski and Heinz Stork along with Richard Levesque all shared in the points to pull it off.
These two Teams are Quick, Eager and Hungry for their playoff births, so everyone Keep your eyes open for Shark in festive Fields and Dog Park Battles.
O MVP's: Travis Thomas (OTFL BD's),Brandon Clark (Sharks)
D MVP's: Rob Edwards / Esteban Correa
MSL: Brett Herod / Jordan Clark

12:00pm
Cowboys vs Manimals
Can't say that I was personally @ the game as I was @ Central all day, but what I heard was "Look out its a Manimal" !! (still not sure what the name means LOL?)
But as these 2 teams hit the gridiron they all meant business as they had seen this script before in 2013. But it was this new sequel that had a lot of ballers turning their heads as the Manimals had some and got er done!! They had 2 receiver's on the day (Chris George & Tristan Muir) who had 12 points each along with Steve Brace with 1 score. It looks like Manimals key to succeeding wa their "D" as they chalked up some serious stocks. With 3 interceptions and 4 Sacks on the day.
But I have total faith in the Cowboys to rebound and will be able to Gun Sling back from this battle as they are a team that Bends but doesn't Break, all was not lost for them as Imran Mohammed scored along with Bryan Pucknell contributing a 2 point convert.
Final SCore: Manimals 31 Cowboys 8
O MVP's: Imran Mohammed (Cowboys), Tristan Muir (Manimals)
D MVP's: Matt Healy / Mark Punsammy
MSL: Andrew Niven / Justin Glover

Now off to the due South @ Central

9:00am
Raiders vs Buckeyes
Again another 2 teams that have done battle year after year after year and all the ballers are familiar with each others play. This battle was a uphill struggle for the Classy Raiders as the Buckeyes were working on all cylinders. With 5 different Buckeyes pointing points on the board, the Raiders still came up strong on the "D" with 3 interceptions and 1 sack by returning Rusher Keith Snider, Welcome back Keith. (Keith BTW in the 90's was the OTLF top Rusher) so all you Sharks,OPC and Manimals keep close attention to Old School @ its best. As one day you to will be playing the game you love in you young 40 & 50's.
Score: Buckeyes 33 Raiders 0
O MVP: Rich LAfoy (Raiders), Marlon Wong Buckeyes
D MVP: Cole LAfoy / Desmond Johnson
MSL: Alec "Stabler") Puntus / Chris Pierre

10:30am
Buckeyes vs Untouchables
What a way for the Buckeyes to start the season for being the team who is challenged off the bat with a back to back double header (better hope they don't have a double header vs "A" teams back to back) ?? Anyways with some fuel in the tank still with 13 strong, they met the Faster, Stronger and well balanced Untouchables. UT's came out with lots of abler ready to get the job done.
This game was aback and fourth battle as the UT's "D" had some key stops allowing their "O" do some scoring by Ryan Forde and Andrew Williams. But the Buckeye's didn't Break, it was Matt Rafuse who had the moves and patterns mustarded up by fellow Brother Mike "RAF" Rafuse to put up a solid 16 points as well as fellow teammate Shane Ruest with a score.
Theses teams will be butting heads all season long, trying to out match each other.
Score Buckeyes 22 Untouchables 12
O MVPs': Matt Rafuse / Andrew Williams (Untouchables)
D MVP's: Matt Rafuse / Che Yew Woon
MSL: Matt Rafuse / Ryan Forde

12:00pm
Rogues vs The Brew Crew
A Huge Challenge for the Brew Crew , who BTW looked great in their new Uni's and more important came to represent as they showed up early for a great warm up, stretch and chalk talk to take on the 2013 Champs.
The Brew Crew "O" came out positive and triple stacked to try and throw off the Rogues coverage with lots of "rubs" and Hook patterns.
This team just didn't quit from start to finish, even the score was all one sided, this Team has a Stand Up bunch of Ballers.
Final Score: Rogues 42 Brew Crew 8
O MVP's: Brandon Pottle (Rogues), Richard Daniel-Lee (Brew Crew)
D MVP's: Joe Dublin / Marvin Olivia
MSL: Rick Pottle / Mack Lakodaris

So here's to lots of Ice, Stretching and more Ice this week as we all heal up for another Sunday of Fun and Football, OTFL Style.

Also please be reminded NO Cars on the fields @ anytime and also PLEASE, PLEASE clean up after yourselves @ each field, as we need to keep the Permits and Fields Safe and ready to use the weeks to come.

Yours in Football Fun,
Buzz

RE: WK1 "Whats the Buzz in the OTFL"?

Here are a few further details from Maxwell.:

Hawks vs opc: with 4 plays left the hawks had the ball and were down by 1 on their ‎own 40 yard line. Hawks' new QB Noah Tumin threw a beautiful pass just over the outstretched hand of Ryan Henriques completing the pass to Rob Wilson. Wilson then turned on the afterburners with Henriques in hot pursuit to take it in for the score and give the Hawks a 14 - 8 lead with 3 plays left after the kickoff.

Sharks vs Bulldogs ‎:

The sharks led 19-8 with just over 4 minutes to play. The bulldogs would drive down the field and score (wisely forfeiting the convert to save time). With the score now 19-14 the Bulldogs forced the Sharks offence to go 3 and out. The Bulldogs then drove down the field and with 2 plays remaining Dave Spackman hit Rick Levesque (aka Rudy) for the go ahead touchdown. The Sharks had one play after the kick. They completed a long pass but the receiver was tagged immediately to end the game 20-19

Manimals vs Cowboys.

The Manimals completely controlled this game from start to finish. The Manimals could be a team to be reckoned with in the 2014 season. They ended up winning 31-8 but from watching the game I was surprised it was even this close.
