Posted By: Exec Posted On: Oct 6th, 2013 Views: 1819 | RE: Longer season Up until the recent change to have the finals prior to Thanksgiving (which began in 2012), the finals were late October/early November for as far back as we can recall. With that, there were a lot of complaints about the season running so late. We find there are a few who would appreciate a longer season, but these few do not outweigh the many that have appreciated the shorter season. This is how the concept of the Fall Draft League came to be.... yes, it has proven difficult to get adequate numbers to field a 4 team minimum start up, but that's not due to lack of effort. Have you signed up? |
Posted By: Old timer Posted On: Oct 6th, 2013 Views: 1815 | RE: Longer season I would totally disagree there are plenty of ballers that play in the Whitby league that goes well into nov. Maybe we could ask the players their opinion as for the fall league ya I signed up last year |
Posted By: Kelly Posted On: Oct 6th, 2013 Views: 1811 | RE: Longer season i dont know what you are disagreeing with? the whitby league does run later.. but it starts in september... so its actually a shorter season that is classified as a 'Fall League'.. whereas the OTFL to date, is a 'Summer League'. If so many people want the season to run later, then why is the OTFL Fall league struggling to start? Would people prefer to put in their own teams and get rid of the Draft Style? serious question... Aside from the Mustangs who have outwardly requested NOT to have a shorter season, we really haven't heard from anyone who wants to put their name to it... every year is a fresh slate... email scott@oshawafootball.com to seriously discuss, or attend the Open House meeting and have your say there. and with that... im going to bed... |
Posted By: In the Know Posted On: Oct 9th, 2013 Views: 1724 | RE: Longer season You can't compare the OTFL fall league with what the Whitby League does. The Whitby league is a 'steamboat' league with strange rules (ex more defenders on the field then offensive players). In my opinion, the Oshawa league would be better to play in than the garbage Whitby league. Thank you to the execs for doing this fall league so that ballers can play in an actual league, and not a garbage league. |
Posted By: Scott Posted On: Oct 9th, 2013 Views: 1722 | RE: Longer season I definitely would not agree with the statement that the whitby league is a garbage league. It offers a very different style of touch football and the I personally would recommend the WMFL to anyone that is interested in playing in fall football. You won't find a better group of guys to play with. The rules may not be for everyone but they are great in the sense that they do make it easier to ensure everyone is able to get their fair share of passes each game. I know as a QB in the OTFL that can be very difficult to do with a rush coming at you. Also I just want to clear up that the reason the OTFL fall draft league was conceptionalized was not to compete with the WMFL in any way. The OTFL season as has been stated on this board used to run into late October/Early November. With many people complaining the season was too long we shortened it to eand late September/early October. We then thought that for those players that would like to continue playing we could offer a fall league for them to play in and by keeping standard Tfont rules it would give them an alternnative to the other fall leagues in the area (whitby and Ajax, which are both steamboat leagues). However, it appears after 2 years of really trying hard to get this league off the ground that it is not menat to be which is fine. Thanks, Scott |
Posted By: Che Posted On: Oct 11th, 2013 Views: 1697 | RE: Longer season You have to remember that the Metro Toronto Touch Football League also starts in September and is the biggest league in the GTA with 38 teams this season. Many players are playing in this from Etobicoke to Scarborough. |
