Trying to understand?

If guys can't show up, why do they even play. There are a lot of people that love and put a lot of time into this league. Why do people find it necessary to stack a team to the point that winning is not even an accomplishment. If you are only going to show up for the playoffs, why show at all. Try to win with your every day commited players, the ones that play all year, now that is an accomplishment. Trust me I am not jealous, I just want to understand. This is not meant to insult, just want to understand?

RE: `Trying

Would the league post with the stats the # of games played by each player after each week? I know the refs are crossing names of players off the scorecards that weren't present after each week (at least they did at our game). But this is something that is important to keep out in the open in order to avoid problems later.

RE: `Trying

Rogues only had 6 this week, they had to borrow an All Black (Tony Stewart by the way, not just anybody) to even up. While the Crew had what looked like a full roster out. Sea of Orange.

Week before the Rogues had 8 out.

RE: Trying to understand?

Are they allowed to do that. They can just grab another teams best player and romp a team that showed up. To me, thats a problem. Then again, this is just hear say at the moment. Can you not play with 6 guys?

RE: `Trying

They can play with 6 guys only, 5 is a default. They are supposed to ask the other team's permission first (as instructed by the refs) prior to opening kick off to use someone not on their roster. Against us in Week 1, Brandon asked me if they could pick up another player from the Hosers/Hounds game. I didn't care and I believe a 7th and 8th player showed up for them soon after kick off. I don't know how this weekend went exactly I just know Tony played with them in the beginning, I didn't stick around to find out how the game went or if anymore Rogues arrived.

RE: Trying to understand?

Tony only played for the beginning of the 1st quarter until another Rogue showed up. At that point the score was only 7-0, so Tony didn't even factor in the 39-0 final score.

For the second consecutive week they played with only 7 players and interestingly, 6 of the 7 were the same guys both weeks. As far as I'm concerned that is the core of their team because these same players were on that team last season. My question for those guys is something along the lines of what "Polite Debate" mentioned at the beginning of this topic. Personally I think your "core" players are a solid group of ballers who obviously can compete with any team in the league, so why the need to bring out "now and then players" who just want to play in enough games in order to qualify for the playoffs.

I'm sure there are enough committed "everyday" players in and around the league who would surely like to play along side you guys.

Just pointing out the obvious guys.

RE: Trying to understand?

if you want to solve this problem, and many others in oshawa(39-0 scores) and buckeyes dominating, go to either a draft league where players pay individually (like whitby or ajax) or do divisions where there is an a and aa, like scarborough. rogues and buckeyes and all blacks can kiick each others buutss in the top, and let the less competitive teams still play and have fun in the a division. as long as you have 2 or 3 teams hoarding the elits players, this league will not thrive.

just my two cents.

RE: Trying to understand?

I Heard that 6 or 7 of the regular Rogue players have had conflicts with the playoffs in Bill Moore's league. This weekend is the finals in that league so we will see if the real Rogue players show up after that, if not they are in trouble. Maybe!!!!

RE: "Games Played"

To respond to your requests, Scott & Drew are addressing the matter concerning attendance, and the minimum 5 game requirement to be eligible for playoffs.

Drew has already inputted the field of "Games Played" and can be viewed under the "Stats" and then "This Years Stats" under the 2009 header on the Right hand side.

NOTE: These are all currently at '0' as the figures have yet to be entered in from weeks 1 & 2 - also, there is one more step to the computer programming portion that Drew needs to finalize before this can be launched.

It is expected to be up and running within the next few days, and be updated at the same time the weekly game stats are inputted.

Any questions or concerns... I know you guys will vocalize them. :)

Kudos to Drew for getting onto this matter so quickly!

Cheers. ..

RE: Trying to understand?

I think the biggest problem is the fact that a league which plays a 13 game sked, allows a player who has only played 5 games to be playoff eligible. That is ridiculous. Players should need to play (or at least show up for in the case of an injured player) at least 50% of the teams games to qualify. Make it 7 games minimum, and you may eliminate some of these situations.

RE: Trying to understand?

The 5 game minimum was decided on by the executive and the team reps that were present at the team rep meeting.

RE: Trying to understand?

I think that you are right about the 5 games,I really dont care if you dont play anygames and play in the playoffs.I think the people who should care, are the players who play all year and take a seat on the bench for players who only play here and there.I dont know what players on the ROgues will not have enough games, from the pictures there best guys are there.Marko is coming to play which is fine hes over in Europe playing and will be here.Guys who havnt been there are Travis and KC.SO teams that are worried look out for them,I personally dont care.

RE: Trying to understand?

Thanks guys for the input without getting to personal. I did not want the rogues picked on. I just know that this is an issue that a lot of people feel strongly about and one that has caused several players over the years to quit. I for one think the guys on the Rogues are a bunch of good guys. I would just like things to be fair to all league members. The rule implemented by the league is definately a step in the right direction. The posting idea is a good one as well. But guys please do not let this get personnal when we see these postings.

RE: Why question

For the league to grow, exposure is required. The exact reason why the argo thing was run, and pushed in league msg boards all over tfont.... not just the shwa. The league is finally starting to get players coming from all over to play, why does it matter how many games they make. They ARE part of the team, and the team is ok with everything.

Instead of crying about it and complaining, how about getting some new blood. Ask around, find some players. Quitting the league because a team has a good player that was only present for 40% of the season... who cares. Last i checked, football was a competitive game. People need to do a gut check and figure out what they wanna play. Make up your mind and decide whether this is a rec league or not. I for one, really dont care.... i dont mind lining up against better players. Sometimes, i might even learn a thing or two.

My point is, instead of worrying about other teams in-house issues. Try to stack your own team, make this league more competitive.... for the teams that cant.... i agree, have an A and B division, or start the season then split it 1/3 of the way through once the better teams have been identified. But stop trying to stiffle growth.... who cares when they come.... it's just great that people will drive to from newmarket, mmississauga, downtown TO, to come play. Maybe evnetually these new players will bring more players of their own or even better.... their own teams.

Just my too cents... still polite

RE: Trying to understand?

Still Polite,

Thanks for your opinion, but your missing the big picture here. What your suggesting is that teams could go the whole season 0-9 and call up a couple "all stars" just for the playoffs and this some how is suppose to be fair for everyone involved in the league.

I could go on at great lengths about how this system of play is not for this league and any other for that matter, but that is what the executive committee is for.

From what i see they are doing a great job in not just dealing with this issue but many others that have challenged them in the past.

RE: Trying to understand?

I have also seen this cause defaults in some instances which is totally unfare for the team scheduled to play them that day.

Also having guys show up only 50 percent of the time is unfare to all teams, because one team may get an easy win while another team that plays the stacked team when everyone shows up loses. I play the allstar team and next week you play the depleted roster. It skews the final standings.

Some of them don't care, but to be fare, I'm sure some don't even understand how this effects others.

I love competition, but it needs to be on the up and up!

And yes the executive is definately showing an effort to fix this problem.

RE: Trying to understand?

The Execute is trying our best to make it fair,if someone pays a 100 or more to play half the games by all means go for it.Some people work two weekends a month. 5 games is a number we came up with and are trying our best to enforce it too. I look at the teams this year and are very happy with competitiveness going on and potential that is there.
