How many teams ever go to Nationals? Too many leagues running and this league should be finished by PROVINCIALS!

RE: WTF

The League has always run the same length and we have never had these types of issues before.

The executive will look into solutions to this for next season though. I already have a few ideas.

Thanks,

Scott

RE: WTF

There are way too many weeks off during the season. three week breaks instead of catering to the teams/players who want to play tournaments we could increase the number of games played. back in the day league used to have 16 games. I also think players should have to play more than 5 games during the season so we can try and eliminate teams who stack their teams for the playoffs.

RE: WTF

The Executive has already discussed the tournament weekend issue for next year and have decided to allow those teams that wish to play league games on tournament weekends the oppurtunity to do so. The league has run a 16 game season once so this is by no means the norm. All other seasons have run 13 to 14 weeks which is the same as this season. Most people I talk to seem to feel the 13 game season (plus playoffs) is more than enough.

We appreciate all the feedback so please keep it coming either on the board, via email or at the field. The only way we can know what the players want is if you tell us. We are always interested in hearing players requests to ensure we as a league are providing you what you want as players.

Thanks,

Scott

RE: WTF

Overall I think the league is well constructed, and really one of the more fun leagues I play in. My suggestions would be these;
1) At league registration, make it so tournament teams must request tournament weekends off. List the weekends on the registration form and ask teams to indicate the tournament weekends that they will not be able to play leagues games on. This makes it an opt out (out of weekends the leagues is playing on) situation and puts the responsibility on the tournament team. This way the league can continue to run in their absence, and limit the number of double headers required

2) I would prefer to see the league wrap up by the end of September, as opposed to the end of October. I consider this a summer league yet it drags into the fall and causes problems on the home front as I end up overlapping fall ball with summer ball. Not cool, and I think there are many players in the same boat. I believe incorporating the first point will help reduce the length of the season, and I think playing with the double headers will also realize a weekend or two savings

3) The number of games required is fair. There is no ?stacking? that I have ever seen in this league. In the AA division I know all of the key players on each team, and I don?t know any in this league that feel the need to stack their team down the stretch to win. Players either get their 5 games in or they don?t, and 5 games is more than fair. How do I know? Because between a calf injury, vacation, and travel for work I have only been able to attend 6 games myself. I paid my $100, and I should be able to play when I?m able, including playoff?s.

4) The one thing that absolutely needs to be addressed for next season are the fields. Central is great, but we need to be more vocal with the City about mowing. Donavan is the worst for lawn care (mowing), and the levelness is boarder line dangerous. I suggest the executive look into alternative locations for Donavan, and some type of plan with the city to make sure that Central is mowed on a regular basis.

RE: WTF

Thanks geoff, I think all 4 points you mentioned are excellent and that this exactly the kind of constructive criticism/feedback I really like the point 1 of putting the onus on the teams to request weekends off for tournaments and I agree the registration form is the ideal method to do that.

I already have ideas in mind to wrap the season up much earlier next year (perhaps even before labour day, no promises though). This may open up the option of a possible Oshawa fall league next year if the interest is there (but I'm getting ahead of myself).

As for point 4 at this point all I can say is I hear your concern and will do whatever I can to address this. One option I'm hoping for is to finally be able to use Maxwell Heights H.S. next year which we may be able to use in place of Donevan. There are not a whole lot of options when it comes to fields and with the Kicks having "super" rights over Eastdale it makes it even harder to find suitable fields. As for the grass they are mowed by the Durham District School Board and I have been told that they follow a schedule that has each field mowed once per week. The issue arises due to the fact that if it rains the day a field is supposed to be mowed then they simply don't mow it that week. If the following week it rains that day again then again the field does not get mowed. This is only what I have heard and is by no means absolute.

Thanks again Geoff for provided your feedback and I would love to hear more feedback from other players.

We have been throwing out the idea of having an "open house" executive meeting. Meaning it will be an executive meeting but anyone is welcome to attend and discuss any issues or ideas they have for the league. If anyone is interested in attending we will post the location and date on the message board and on the news section of the website. Realizing most players will not be checking the website as much in the off season, provide me your email address and we'll be sure to email you with the above information. We anticipate this meeting will take place sometime in January.

Thanks,

Scott

RE: WTF

Geoff is full of crap, don't listen to him! :) jokes. A shorter season would make sense, with playoffs running in September. A fall league would be cool, but a lot of us already play Saturday ball so the number of teams may not be large. But then again, there are a lot of guys that would play from the Oshawa area maybe. One suggestion I have is to make division champs move up and last place teams move down regardless of request. I know this makes is tricky because teams may have excuses or complain, but I think this would make the regular season more interesting. all teams with the current playoff format have a chance to move anyways. I guess the downside would be teams may pull out, but with my above argument I can't see why.

RE: WTF

kitty litter...

that is a thought.. (forcing moving up/down for divisional champs)...

But what about those teams that dont play too well (statistically speaking) throughout the year, but do exceptionally well in the playoffs... ?

flipping them up into the higher tier to play against stronger competition, (more than just the one time they currently do), could be a recipe for unsatisfied players... it all comes down to how much the teams want to be challenged... [which cannot to be decided by the executives IMO]. This is why, in the past, it has been a suggestion of the exec, but not an enforcement.. some teams may feel they need more time to grow & develop... while others may embrace the switch to a higher tier with open arms...

There is a lot to consider... and definitely something we can explore more thoroughly going forward...

You players have a lot of experience.. both within our league, and others... you have desirable feedback, and this is why we are inviting anyone who is interested to attend our "Open House" Executive Meeting (details tbd). This gives anyone a chance to ask questions, give feedback, express ideas, and DISCUSS the direction of the league [not just team reps, and Exec members]... at the end of the day, we know we cant please everyone.. but our goal is the vast majority. As Scott mentioned above, send your email address to scott@oshawafootball.com to be notified of the details of this Open House.

As well, we have a lot of great ideas for 2012 that we want to share with you guys... bounce the thoughts off ya, and see if they are worthy of our energy implementing... :) with 2012, our objectives are: more growth, more interaction, more incentives, and more reward... ...

Scott & I have been talking a lot about these new ideas, and are pretty excited for 2012... not to wish away time or anything......

Thanks for your input Kitty Litter.. hope to see you at the Open House...
