Week 7 picks

They say competition breeds success and this is apparently quite true in my case. Since finally having someone to compete against this year my record has been a staggering 16-1-1. Just unbelievable.

Granted the last two were not the most difficult weeks but still 16 - 1 - 1. Very impressive.

On to this week's picks.

Central

Longhorns v. Turtles

At the start of the year you have to figure the Longhorns anticipated their games against the Turtles as being easy wins but after a 28 - 14 loss to the Turtles in week 2 and 0-7 record it seems safe to assume the Longhorns don't see any games as easy wins now. The Turtles are looking to stay out of the bottom two in the "C" division to avoid having to play the "play-in" game. Look for the Turtles to once again defeat the Longhorns.

Lancers v. Turtles

Being as the Turtles wouldn't have stood a chance against the powerful Lancers anyways this week's schedule couldn't have worked out any better for them. Give me to Lancers to easily win this game.

Lancers v. Longhorns

See above. It's too bad the Longhorns didn't have a more exciting game to watch while they waited. Maybe they will head to one of the other fields as both fields are sporting excellent 10:30 games. The Lancers win 2 straight this week and continue to make that race for the top two playoff spots in the "B" division very interesting.

Anderson

Rogues v. Sun Devils

Anyone out there think this might be the game of the week? This game is looking more and more like the obvious "A" championship game with each passing week. My sources have informed me that during the last match between these two teams (S.D. 20 - Rogues 0) the Rogues were battling many injuries and they were on the second game of a double header. Will a rested and somewhat healed Rogues team make the difference and allow the Rogues to even the regular season series against the Sun Devils? I don't think so. It will be a much closer game than 20 - 0 but it will still be a Sun Devils victory, all but cementing their spot as first place in the "A" division.

All Blacks v. Buckeyes

A very interesting match up here as the "rest" of "A" division squares off. The All Blacks had a tough time against the Rogues last week but before that were starting to play well. Can't really say the same about the Buckeyes and an 80% TJ playing limited snaps does not replace a 100% Rafuse. Give me the All Blacks in a close one.

Hounds v. Bulldogs

Well Pussy Cat 4 life was served some humble pie last week against an elite Sun Devils team. Don't worry Bulldogs you are still my favourite team. Alas I can't pick with my heart and the Hounds are the hot team right now having not lost a game in over a month. I like the Hounds to continue to show they are for real in the "B" division and take this game.

Donevan

Buccaneers v. OPC

OPC played a Raiders team with only 6 guys last week and still couldn't secure the victory. The Buccaneers are probably close to if not as good as the Raiders so assuming they get 7 guys out this week they will have no trouble taking care of OPC.

Raiders v. Buccaneers

Well I just said these two teams are as good as each other but the Buccaneers may be tired in this one. For that reason alone I will go with the Raiders in a close one.

Raiders v. Mustangs

Unlike the pick above I don't feel these teams are as good as one another. The Mustangs are clearly the better team and will be rested. Should be an easy victory for the Mustangs.

What's this??? A bonus game??? What a nice surprise.

Hawks v. Mustangs

The Hawks have shown they are an excellent team this year but so have the Mustangs. The difference is the Mustangs have done it at a higher level. I've seen the Mustangs play and with the number of players they bring out to the games I don't think fatigue will be much of an issue. Give me the Mustangs to win this one and in doing so not really clear anything up atop the "B" or "C" division.

As a special treat I have heard that the co-ed flag finals are this weekend (well Monday) as well. As I don't play in the co-ed league I haven't been giving picks for it but since it's the finals I will make an exception.

Co-ed Consolation Finals

Intercepticons v. Urine Trouble

Give me the Intercepticons in an upset just because they have a cooler name.

Co-Ed Finals

Dawksports v. ASU

I'll go with Dawksports in a close one.

There are the picks and in case you didn't know I'm hot right now so it's time to make the big money.

As always please let me know your thoughts.

JA

RE: Week 7 picks

Johnny boi... why do you keep me sitting on pins and needles for so long?

i see we are once again sharing thoughts... but somewhere in that brain of yours you must be missing some matter.

hounds to beat the bulldogs??

did you typo???

the bulldogs will take this... just because the hounds were able to put away some C teams, doesnt make them a force to be reckoned with in the B scene... NOW is the time for [insert something witty] 4 Life to be talking up a storm.... cause at least this week he will be able to back it up on the field.

aside from that game, it looks like we are once again wearing the same coloured pompoms.

when do you want to get together to rehearse some cheers?

RE: Week 7 picks

The Hounds are a much better team then their record would suggest. We are definitely not looking past them this week. Both teams are desperate, we're desperate to get off our two game losing streak and the Hounds are looking to keep thei winning streak going. It'll be a good game!!!
Kelly, we'll do our best to give you the championship prognostication belt ;)
Good luck to the rest of the teams this weekend!!

RE: Week 7 picks

i have faith the bulldogs will pull this one out... its the first time ive rooted for you guys -- come on bull dog 4 life, dont disappoint me now!! :)

and i know.. the hounds are good.. just off to a rocky start... they have brandon clark who has always lit up the stats the past few years, and replaced a bit of their team with fresh blood.. so im thinking its just taking a bit to pull together as a TEAM..

i think they are coming around to it now though....

Hopefully we can skip the concussions for our next game, two of us decided our brains were better scrambled... :)

RE: Week 7 picks

if that helped you win, then why skip it? laughs.. maybe thats what you need to keep on doing?? :D

JA --- looking at the scores unveil themselves, its looking as though we didnt do too hot this week.. damnitall.. .. the mustangs lost both their matchups -- they were missing their QB... sundevils and rogues tied..... although ... there was controversy over the final play (or 2nd last play??)... i shouldve kept my pick for the tie! laughs..

annndd.. what else.. oh yeah.. the bulldogs lost.. in a close one.. damnit JA... maybe all your years experience are making you the better prognosticator... although, rumour has it the bulldogs were missing their QB today as well..

my turtles... my beloved turtle... broke my heart a 2nd week in a row... ill know better than to pick them again... [ya hear that turtles... WE ARE THROUGH!]..

not too sure on a few of the scores, as we are waiting on baited breath for the results to come in from the other few games... but damnitall.. my right to wrong ratio is taking a shit kicking this week..

boooo...

RE: Week 7 picks

Kelly, my sources tell me that the Hounds were missing their starting centre...and we all know from previous posts the centre is normally the position that has the most effect on the outcome of the game. The Hounds, though, were unaffected by this potentially crippling setback, effected a winning game plan, and perhaps have effectively silenced our cute little canine friend.

RE: Week 7 picks

I don't even know how to respond to that ... Because I'm still laughing my ass off.

I love it!!

All I know is that When I grow up, I wanna be a starting centre. They are much more "specialer" than being the princess I previously sought after being. And - it helps remedy me getting off my fat ass as kevin ca... I mean "gridiron" suggested I do.

Thanks for helping me re-route my dreams, "AYSTA5G"

RE: Week 7 picks

Hounds, well played game. As you agreed with a wise man from before, the centre is a position that can affect or effect (whatever lol) the outcome of a game. Your back-up centre played admirably and bottom line is you made one more play than we did and today that was just enough. Way to take advantage of opportunities. Now mind you, if you think that you'll be ahead in the standings at the end of the year then I'd like some of the same stuff that you're smoking lol.
That's just the facts, I even asked my 5th grader assistant!

RE: Week 7 picks

so... heres how it would play out... assuming that all the A teams, beat the B teams, and all the B teams beat the C teams, and that the Lancers beat the Raiders (thats the most crucial pivot point).....

then the Lancers would be 1st in B
Bulldogs 2nd.

Mustangs screwed themselves by losing the last 2 games played; they needed those and then they wouldve been in 1st place... now the best they stand is 3rd, tied 7-6 with Raiders (again, assuming the Raiders will lose to the Lancers as they should)

then the hounds....
they just started shining a lil too late

basically.. its still anyones game in the B...... but.. this is if they win what they should, and lose what they should.... depicted by the tier system.
