Championship Review

The Oshawa Touch Football League has come to a successful end for the 2010 season. All teams in the OTFL played with heart and passion throughout the grueling 13 week regular season and 3 weeks of playoffs. In the end, it came down to three champions taking the A, B, and C division titles.

Congratulations go out to the Sun Devils for seizing the "A" Division Title, the Raiders for capturing the ?B? crown, and the Killer Beezzz for earning the ?C? division championship. A special mention goes out to the Ruff Riders, the Lancers, and the Hawks for battling the winning teams in what was a great championship weekend.

Teams came prepared to play on a cold, rainy morning; they arrived early to warm up, go through game strategy and focus on their mission of winning a championship. Spectators also braved the conditions, wielding ponchos, umbrellas, and warm drinks - these games were going to be enjoyed at any cost.

The Sun Devils vs. the Ruff Riders. What a great game! The underdog Sun Devils snatched a 12-0 lead, but the Ruff Riders battled back to put themselves in position to steal the game. The Ruff Riders dropped some balls and the Sun Devils made some great catches which allowed them to take their first championship by a final score of 25 - 13.

The Raiders and the Lancers played an exciting game. The Raiders went ahead by two touchdowns but the Lancers scored to keep it close, trailing by only 7 points. Both QB?s had their work cut out for them trying to figure out their opponent's strong defence but in the end the Raiders held off the Lancers by a score of 26 - 21. Congratulations to the Raiders for defending their title two years in a row.

The Killer Beezzz and The Hawks fought it out for the ?C? title. This proved to be a very tough game for both teams as they faced their toughest opponent - Mother Nature. Due to the rain, balls were slipping through players hands making it difficult for the offense to really move the ball. This was a good old fashioned "fight them in trenches" type of game. In the end, the Killer Beezzz defeated the Hawks by a score of 20 - 0, awarding them the title as ?C? champs.

All the games were great through and through! It would have been nice if the football gods had answered our prayers and controlled the weather so that sunny skies had prevailed.

Our league banquet at ?Wild Wing Oshawa? our 2010 League Sponsor wrapped up a great day and an outstanding 2010 season. The League treated the players and their fans/families by ensuring everyone had more than enough wings, fries, beer and, oh yes, salad (we are athletes you know) to eat. The atmosphere at Wild Wing Oshawa was electric with players, family members and fans having an incredible time.

On behalf of the Oshawa Touch Football League 2010 Executives we would like to thank all players, team representatives, referees, Wild Wing Oshawa, and the Durham District School Board for allowing us to have a great season. Without all of you, none of this could happen. This was an awesome season guys and gals, we cannot wait until next year? We hope to see you all back in 2011.

Any new players of teams interested in joining the league for the 2011 season please contact Scott Elkington at (905)213-3183 or email the league at oshawafootball@gmail.com
