Wild Wing Oshawa Week 5 in Review

Things started off at Eastdale with the Bulldogs beating the Hawks 15 ? 1. Touchdowns from the Thomas brothers (Andrew and Travis) led the ways as the Bulldogs now improve to 3 -2 and take sole possession of first place in the ?C? division. The lone bright spot for the Hawks was Jeff Hernandez?s 3 sacks.

This week didn't have a great turn out for the women's division. The Navy team who always has a great attendance was missing their QB. The Pink team who had a great game the week before was also missing their QB. The White team had a strong showing and Red, well, needs their team to show up!
So with low numbers it was decided that we would join forces and have a game of 7on7 and use the whole field. The women were excited about the game. White and Pink formed one team while Red and Navy formed the other. Carole Trimm scored the only touchdown for Navy/Red and Trista Leetch scored the convert. This was Trista's first day out and she played very well as she also had a sack. Flutie moved the ball around to everyone on Navy/Red. Stephanie Kentner had a bit of a struggle for White/Pink. There were a lot of dropped balls but she hung in there fighting till the end. Zayna had a sack for White/Pink and the rest of the defense played well.
We are off for the next 2 weeks so hopefully the women's division comes out strong in August. Next scheduled game is Aug 15th. See you all then.
Again if anyone knows anyone that is interested in playing it's never too late!

The second men's game at Eastdale saw the Rogues taking on the Buckeyes. The Buckeyes were looking to stay undefeated in this one but were up against a tough Rogues team. The Rogues took this one 12 ? 6 as Brandon Pottle stole the show scoring all 12 Rogue points and also notching two interceptions. The Buckeyes touchdown came after Greg Tierney made a great interception and ran it back most of the way before pitching to Rob Wilson for the score. With the loss the Buckeyes fall to 4 ? 1 on the season but still hold a share of first place in the ?A? division.

The final game at Eastdale saw two teams playing the second game of their respective double headers as the Sun Devils faced off against the Rogues. In a great back and forth match up the Sun Devils came out ahead 30 ? 19. Jance Helmer (Sun Devils) and Brandon Pottle (Rogues) led all scorers with 12 points each. Chris Heath, Russ Beverly and Vaughn Blanchard each added 6 points for the Sun Devils who now improve to 3-1-1 and only a ? game back of the leaders in the ?A? division.

At Donevan the Killer Beezzz were able to snap a 3 game losing streak as they beat the Buccaneers 27 ? 0 Desmond Johnson and Omher Cohen were the key players for the Beezzz putting up 14 and 12 points respectively. The loss drops the Buccaneers out of first place in the ?C? division.

In the second game at Donevan the Lancers had no trouble as they beat Westney FC 20 ? 1. Gaston Lau, Nick Koumoutas and Rob Grey all scored touchdowns for the Lancers while Randy Iceton?s 3 sacks was the sole highlight for the WFC. The win keeps the Lancers in first place in the ?B? division with a record of 4 ? 1.

At Central, the day started with the All Blacks picking up their first victory of the season, a 22 ? 12 win over the Raiders. Che Lafoy scored 14 points while Matt Chang added a touchdown for the All Blacks who are looking to battle back in the ?A? division.

The Second game at Central featured the Ruff Riders and Sun Devils two ?A? division teams trying to finish the day in first place. The Ruff Riders led by Doug Mayberry and Geoff Johnson (14 points each) were able to beat the Sun Devils 35 ? 15. Vaughn Blanchard scored 12 points for the Sun Devils in a losing effort.

On the second game of their double header the Ruff Riders were able to beat the Hounds 32 ? 16 giving them two victories on the day and improving their record to 4 -1. Dave Bye spread the ball around well in this one as 5 different players on the Ruff Riders had touchdowns. James Huff led the way for the Ruff Riders defense grabbing 3 interceptions. Steve Correa (12 points) and Brandon Clarke (3 interceptions) led the way for the Hounds, who with the loss fall to 1 -4 and last place in the ?B? division.

Good luck to all the Oshawa teams and players that will be playing in the Unionville tournament Aug. 7th and 8th. The OTFL will be back in action Aug 15th. The OTFL All Star festivities will be on Aug 29th.
