TFONT - Hamilton

The Oshawa Buckeyes had another good showing at the Hamilton stop in the Trillium Tour. Missing our quarterback for the Saturday games, we still had a chance against a veteran X-Men team, who rallied in the 2nd half for the win. We then got blown out by a Grasshoppers squad that has made a habit out of blowing teams out so far this young season.

Toronto X-Men -- lost in a close game.

St. Catherines Grasshoppers -- Lost lots to nothing (i think that was the technical score).

Sunday brought better things, as the Buckeyes rallied to their second straight B Finals.

Mississauga Punishers -- Buckeyes win going away, 20 something to 0.

Kingston Vikings -- In a game that seemed over by halftime, the Vikings woke up in the second half and rallied from two scores down, taking a 1 point lead with 1:48 to go. Buckeyes chew up lots of yardage to have a chance to kick a game tying single, which fails to clear the end zone; a Vikings player kicks the ball from his end zone, straight back to Dominico, who makes the most of his second opportunity. Buckeyes go on to win 3-0 in converts.

Ottawa Spartans -- Felt like 18-6, not sure if that's accurate or not. Ottawa scored with under 2 minutes to go to account for the final score. The Buckeyes D played great, twice getting stops from 1st and goal inside their own 10 yard line. The offence struggled to get into rhythm on the narrow field against a disruptive defence that more seemed to run to specific spots rather than play a traditional coverage. Making things more difficult, the second half was plagued with dropped passes, including several by #18.

All told, it was a good, fun tournament. Several Buckeyes have already stepped up their game, with Jemaine and Phil having solidified their spots as anchors in the middle of the defence and on corner, and Tim and Rob Wilson enjoying an increased role in the offence.

Good things lie ahead for this young Buckeyes squad, and I can't wait for the Oshawa league to get started -- this year looks to be more competitive than ever!

RE: TFONT - Hamilton

Sweet. Nice job Buckeyes. Big props for rebuilding your team after last year and showing signs of improvment every single time out.

Best of luck the rest of the way.
