Week 11 Report

Week 11 in the OTFL wraps up another exciting season. With several teams playing in tournaments this weekend there were only 4 games on the schedule. The first game saw a struggling A division team take on a B division squad who have put together 2 wins in a row. The second game was between the first place C division team and the third place C division team. The third game was the first matchup of the year between the Raiders and the Thundercats, and the final game was between two C division rivals.

Sharks vs. OPC

Game 1 at Maxwell saw the 1 and 9 OPC take on the 4 and 6 Sharks. OPC played strong D in this one looking for their second win of the year and trying to build momentum heading into the playoffs. OPC held the Sharks potent offense to only 8 points. Brandon Clark scored the lone touchdown for the Sharks, while Esteban Correa recorded the 2-pt convert. OPC edged the Sharks offensive output by a single touchdown as Brian Santos and Derek Ginter caught one each. Defensively, the Sharks were led by Aaron Johnson who had 2 INTs and OPC was led by Daniel Oliveira who had 5 sacks.

Final Score: OPC 12 Sharks 8
Game MVP: Derek Ginter

Hawks vs. Thundercats

Game 2 at Maxwell was the first of a double header for the Cats. During the pregame the Cats learned that they would only have to deal with the Steve and Travis duo for the first half, so maybe they had a chance at a win, and they did. The Hawks got out to an early 2 score lead and didn't get much else. Travis Thomas and Rob Wilson recorded the early TDs, while Travis was on the receiving end of the 2-pt convert, making him OTFL's highest scorer of the year. The Cats stormed back in the second half when the Hawks lost their QB and top receiver. The Thundercats got a TD from Bryce Crawford and Keitel Burry, and a safety from Nick Torrenueva to come within 1 point. With only a couple of minutes left in the game the Cats were in the Hawks redzone on the verge of stealing the game, when Matt Siekowski came down with a huge INT to seal the deal for the Hawks.

Final Score: Hawks 15 Cats 14
Game MVP: Steve Gagnon

Raider vs. Thundercats

The 12 o'clock game at Maxwell was the second half of the double header for the Cats as they were taking on the shorthanded Raiders. Both the Cats and the Raiders desperately needed a win in this one as they had 3 and 2 respectively. The Raiders struck first as Steve Waterson caught a TD pass from Rich Lafoy. The Thundercats responded with a promising start to their drive before getting picked off by the HOF Mark Philip. The Raiders scored second when Matt Chang connected with another HOF Al Puntus to increase their lead to 12. Finally, the Cats answered with a TD of their own when Taylor Shaw caught a long ball from QB Keitel Burry. Keitel Burry then tacked on the 2-pt convert to pull within 4 points. The Raiders put the nail in the coffin when Rich Lafoy hit Dave St. Louis on an in, who then ran it in for paydirt.

Final Score: Raiders 18 Cats 8
Game MVP: Dave St. Louis

The final regular season game in the 2016 OTFL season saw two C division teams going head to head. Atlas was looking for their first win of the season, while the Manimals were attempting to cement their spot as the second best C division team. Atlas couldn't get anything going on offense, and their lone brightspot was an INT from Andrew Kennedy. On the other hand, the Manimals did enough offensively and played solid defense to earn their fourth win. The Manimals QB, Conner Alexander led the way as he had 2 TDs thrown and an INT. Tyrone Isaacs and Chris Rennie were on the receiving end of these TD passes. Nick Ferris also recorded a pick for the Manimals.

Final Score: Manimals 14 Atlas 0
Game MVP: Tyronne Isaacs
