Week 3 Report

With the majority of teams on a bye this week, the spotlight was on Maxwell Heights.

The opening game saw the Hawks against Atlas. Needless to say the Hawks came out of the gate flat without their starting quarterback. An early score and conversion from the Hawks gave them an early 7 to 0 lead. Jeff Hernandez was on the receiving end of both the touchdown and the extra point thrown by BACKUP quarterback Scott Elkington. Atlas responded with a touchdown of their own in the first half, where Andrew Kennedy had the TD reception. Atlas proceeded to go for a 2-point conversion, and came up empty handed. The second half was a defensive battle with neither team putting points on the board.

Final Score: Hawks 7 – Atlas 6
MVP: Jeff Hernandez

The second game of the day was a battle between two B division teams. The 0-1 Untouchables and the 0-2 Sharks were both looking to chalk one up in the win column. Brandon Clark did all he could for the Sharks team by catching two TD passes from Scott Bird. Unfortunately for the Sharks, this was not enough. For the Untouchables, Jelani Adams hit Joel Henry for two TDs of his own and found Andrew Williams and Jason Joseph for the 1-point conversions. The difference in this game was that the Untouchables were able to make good of the points after touchdown.

Final Score: Untouchables 14 – Sharks 12
MVP: Joel Henry

The third of four games at Maxwell Heights featured the Thundercats and the Manimals. With many predicting a tight game between the two teams, the Thundercats came out roaring. On their first drive of the game the Thundercats used an effective balance of running and passing concluded by a TD pass from Bryce Crawford to Jamie Whitter. On the opening drive for the Manimals, the Thundercats were able to pick off a pass and run it back for 6. In the fourth quarter with the Thundercats up 26 to 0, the Manimals were able to build momentum for next game when Nick Ferris connected with Tyronne Isaacs for a long TD.

Final Score: Thundercats 26 – Manimals 6
MVP: Jamie Whitter

The final game of Week 3 was a great matchup between OPC and the Raiders. OPC struck first with a fine catch by Ryan Henriques aired out by Ricardo Duarte. The Raiders responded when Matt Chang juked the half the OPC squad into Earth’s core from a pitch pass. The OMG moment of the game came when Ryan H hit a 50+ yard field goal. It might be safe to say that this field goal distance will hold up as one of the longest for seasons to come. The game started to get chippy in the second half when Mark Philip was questionably ejected for a tag to Brian Santos. Throughout the rest of the game OPC managed two more TDs, while the Raiders managed one more TD. OPC took this one in handily, winning by 11 points.

Final Score: OPC 23 – Raiders 12
MVP: Ryan Henriques

RE: Week 3 Report

Great write up, Sheamus...

I have posted a small handful of pics in our Facebook group.. We will get them all uploaded onto the website soon.

(sorry OPC vs Raiders game.. the batteries in the camera died early in your game; and sorry Hawks vs Atlas... Scott obviously couldnt multitask QBing and picture taking, so in my absence, there were none taken of the game... next time? next time!)

RE: Week 3 Report

Oh - nice!!! i like when teams have their own entourage.. *highfive*

:) OHH.. and minor amendment to the Hawks vs Atlas game... although Hern does usually light up the MVP stats for the Hawks, in a shocking twist, Drew Walker was actually viewed as Valuable!... i mean... the most valuable... :D yayyyy Drewwwwwwww...
