Week 2 picks

Well I'm off to a great start this year with missing the first week of games. But I am making it my vow to get picks in every week going forward. And since the weekly picks contest doesn't start until this week I figure I'm off the hook.

Other than maybe the Hawks beating the Thundercats no big surprises last week.

There also wasn't very many close games last week with all but one game being decided by more than one score. I don't see that trend continuing this week though.

Let's get to the picks:

Eastdale:

OPC v Rogues: We get our first look at OPC this week. They were really impressive last season but they get a tough draw to start the season this year. Like most years I'm not going to be picking against the Rogues until they give me a reason to. Give me the Rogues.

OPC v Rivals: Rivals snuck out a victory over the Raiders last week when a Raiders player unthinkably punted the ball out of his own endzone instead of just taking a knee or trying to return the ball. We will see if OPC plays this strategically and rests some of it's star players a bit more against the Rogues to be rested and ready to go against the Rivals in what is a much more winnable game. Either way I still like OPC to take this one.

ASU v Rivals: Tough double header for the Rivals this weekend. They could easily go 0-2 this week as long as ASU has it's full squad out. Give me ASU to make it a long day for the Rivals.

ASU v Untouchables: Another team making it's debut this weekend. I don't really know what to expect from the Untouchables this season. They have improved every year since joining the OTFL but I think they are starting to plateau. If the improvement continues this year I like them to give ASU a really good game here (especially with ASU playing the back end of a double header). I'm still going to take ASU here since I want to see something from the Untouchables before taking them.

Maxwell heights:

Hawks v. Sharks: The Hawks looked very impressive last week beating a talented Thundercats team. The Sharks played tough against ASU but fell apart in the 2nd half. Even having said this I have to go with Sharks (a solid B team) to beat the Hawks (a possibly overachieving C team).

Thundercats v. Atlas: Tough start for both these teams last week. Both are looking for their first win of the season. Atlas has some serious talent but just need to go through the growing pains that all first year teams go through. The Cats went through them last year and now they are ready pounce. Give me the Cats to win this one fairly easily.

Manimals v. Raiders: I do think this game will be a lot closer than most people think but I still don't feel totally comfortable taking the Manimals to beat a B team even if I do think the Manimals could be the surprise team of the 2016 season. Give me the Raiders in a close one.

Well there you have it. Another perfect week.

For the weekly picks contest I'll take:

Rogues
ASU over Rivals
Cats
Raiders

As always feel free to give me your feedback

JA

RE: Week 2 picks

I'm gonna start taking a crack at this prediction gig. The difficult part about following up picks like these is trying to differentiate. Unfortunately, I have to agree with all of your picks.

OPC v Rogues: OPC draws a tough game to start their season. I, like most others, simply cannot pick against the Rogues. That being said, I expect OPC to show us they belong in the A division this game.

ROGUES

OPC v Rivals: This is most definitely a more winnable game over familiar opponent. OPC playing in the B division last year allows them to be properly prepared. This would be the game of the week if OPC didn't have to play back to back. Even still, OPC proves to be too much for the Rivals.

OPC

ASU v Rivals: A double header against two A teams is a tough week 2 for the Rivals. I just don't see them having enough in the tank to hang with ASU.

ASU

ASU v Untouchables: This is a rare exception to the double header. Most times I would pick against the team playing back to back, but I don't think ASU will have much trouble with their first game.

ASU

Maxwell heights:

Hawks v. Sharks: The Hawks have a good team this year. They handled a talented, be it disorganized, Thundercats team that many expected to win out last week. They look to be the class of the C division. The Sharks dropped down this year and look to have what it takes to be serious contenders in the B division. The Sharks will be too much.

SHARKS

Thundercats v. Atlas: Both teams had a poor game last week. Atlas is a young team that will need some time to adjust to the pace of the league. The Cats are gonna be looking for a statement game and I believe this is going to be it.

CATS

Manimals v. Raiders: This matchup in last year's championship was more tightly contested than many expected. The Raiders had no competition in the C division last year until this game. The Manimals have some talent and it seems to be coming together. The Raiders are just too much at this time and take the W.

RAIDERS

RE: Week 2 picks

Hello OTFL,

I know I'm a week late but whatever. Hope everyone had a good off season and I look forward to seeing you all on the field.

Now here are my picks for week 2. FYI if I had picked last week I would have only gotten one wrong. If you haven't guessed which one it would have been the Hawks. I never wold have picked them to win;).

OPC vs Rogues

Can OPC hang with the elite??? That's the question in the A division and who better to test the waters out but with the Rogues, the too many years champions of the league, very much deserved though. All I'm going to say is I don't expect us to get our asses handed to us every week. We may get spanked here and there but we'll be doing a little ourselves. We all know what the Rogues can do and I'm looking forward to playing them Sunday.

OPC win

OPC vs Rivals

Rematch time! These games are always fun. Do we solidify our B championship with a win? Does a Rivals win prove that last year was lucky? No and no. But maybe just a bit. I hear the Rivals made a few pick ups in the off season so that's exciting. A big win last week as well, not bad. But as always OPC will prevail.

OPC win

ASU vs Rivals

ASU looks to be following suite. A solid win over a good B team and a loss to the Rogues. Thats not meant to be an insult. It means that ASU will again be one of the top 2/3 teams as usual. They will suffer a surprise loss or two but it won't be this week. Rivals will compete. If they keep it close into the 2nd half they just might.

ASU win

ASU vs Untouchables

ASU might suffer one of those surprise losses I mentioned above. They'll be coming off of tough first game and may feel it in game two. The Untouchables will need to score points if they want to win this one. This will be close no matter who wins.

Untouchables win

Hawks vs Sharks

Hawks have started off on the right foot. Big win vs a division rival and by the looks of the final score it seemed to go pretty well. I hear there's a new arm at the helm. Whoever is coaching over there should get a raise! This game will be a big test for Hawks. If they want to prove they are back, well as back as they could be, they'll have to step up against the top teams and I put the Sharks there. Personally I think the Sharks will handle this game and earn a big win.

Sharks win

Thundercats vs Atlas

Welcome to the OTFL Atlas. It'll be rough at first but if you stick with it it'll only get better. I expected more from the Cats last week. They need this win to get he confidence back.

Cats win

Manimals vs Raiders

Tough loss last week for the Raiders. They'll need to take care of business Sunday and I don't see them having a problem doing so. I'm always glad to see the Maninals back year after year. They seem to have stuck, now they need to show they belong. A good win last week to boost team moral was nice. A win here would really rock the boat.

Raiders win

And there you have it. Good luck to all.

See you on Sunday

RE: Week 2 picks

The prognosticators have come out to play
Week 2 Oshawa Touch Football looks to be a hot one ,(will it matter)
OPC vs Rogues
After winning easily in week 1 against a good A team ,The Rogues will do more of the same. OPC to win ? COME ON MAN!!!!!!!!!! Can,t go against the Rogues
Rogues by 21

OPC vs Rivals
This will be the best game of the day. On a regular day, I would take OPC,but , heat and double header . It will be tough
Rivals by 1

ASU vs Rivals
ASU is too strong to start, and coupled with the heat and Rivals on the back end of a double header. Can't see it
ASU by 14

ASU vs Untouchables
Another good game. Untouchables are good team who have the knack of being dangerous. I think they will do well ,but, even at the end of a double header ASU will win
ASU by 7

Hawks vs Sharks
The Hawks surprised last week , which makes this a lot closer than I would have suspected a week ago. I am throwing a dart
Sharks by 2

Thundercats vs Atlas
We got our first look at new team Atlas last week. They are going to feel some growing pains in the beginning.Tough loss for the Cats last week, Again, if they all show up it will be theirs.
Cats by 21

Manimals vs Raiders
Last years C final. Manimals got the win, but, against a new team, Raiders a loss on a blown play. It won't happen this week
Raiders by 14

Good Luck to all, Have a great day

RE: Week 2 picks

As good as my intentions were to get out and watch some games last week, my parenting duties said otherwise. So - I am going totally blind on some of these... that's my disclaimer.
and, as always, thank you JA for laying out the games formatting for me to copy and paste.

Eastdale:

OPC v Rogues: This one makes me a bit sad.. for a long time the Sharks (aka Hounds) were my top team.. with OPC in second... well, last year i made the switch to OPC being my #1 team. I know... I know.. how could I do that? I'd like to say the Sharks asked for it by changing their name, and colour... Anyway, no one is here to point fingers, right? ( :( ) So - with OPC being my fave team in the League, it kills me to say that, well, they just don't have a chance in hell with this game. I'm sorry, guys... I think it will be great practice, and perhaps the end of this season you will stand a better chance? but this early?? well.. you guys must have pissed off the wrong guy somewhere along the way to get this kind of schedule... ;)
Rogues win... I won't say easily (but I will be thinking it).

OPC v Rivals: Here is one where I will gladly lay my OPC faith out and declare an OPC win. Yes, it's the tail end of a double header.. BUT... come on.. it's OPC... Rivals may think that this will be their easy game of the weekend, but they will be shown otherwise.
OPC win... leaving them on a positive note going in to the Fiesta Parade.

ASU v Rivals: JA was right - this is a tough double header week for the Rivals.. but, really, with how comparable majority of the teams are at this point within the league, every double header will be painful. Rivals will have had to play for their life in their first game against OPC in order to keep it anything close, so I really just don't think they will have enough left in them to take out ASU (and I don't even know who is on that team this year?? but... I do know Spack pieces together a pretty stellar team, even in the 11th hour).
ASU win.. in a game that should probably be closer than what it will end up being.

ASU v Untouchables: I am oddly really looking forward to this game, even though I won't be around to watch it (anyone want to Facebook Live Stream it? ;) ) Untouchables have what it takes to take the W, and the schedule is in their favour that they get to play a slightly-exhausted ASU team ----- or, do I mean well-warmed up ASU team? This one will be close, and I am not too sure who will win... my heart says untouchables, but my gut says ASU.
Since ive learned not to ever trust my heart.... I am going with ASU.

Maxwell heights:

Hawks v. Sharks: Hard to base anything off of last week's game... since when wasn't Scott playing QB for the Hawks?!?!?!? WTF??? And, how do I turn my back on my not-so-long-ago fave team...
I will take the Sharks in this... but not with peace of mind... I'm sure this will be a nailbiter.

Thundercats v. Atlas: I have zero ideas what to expect from Atlas... and in saying this, I will have to judge solely on the learning curve being in the Thundercats favour by a 1 year head start. Every new team takes awhile to get their bearings, not only from a rules perspective, but from a team perspective, too. ...Until i see more (or actually SEE Atlas, period) I will go with the Thundercats for this win.... but I am sure these two will trade victories with one another throughout the season.

Manimals v. Raiders: Manimals are finally starting to get their stride (or maybe it was because they played a team who was just getting out of the gates for the first time?)... Raiders will probably want to redeem themselves after a head-dropping first game... I will take this need for redemption as a stronger force than a triumphant momentum - any day!
Raiders win. Not by a ton, basically just enough to get the job done.

Blessed.
